Bull Pen Funding 2011
Bull Pen 2011 was another great success! The audience included more than 60 enthusiastic supporters, and the full $15,000 was awarded.
Our four judges — Barry Metcalfe (Cochrane IGA), Terry Norman (Ongrowing Works), Councillor Ivan Brooker, Andrea Blonsky (Cochrane Community Gardens Society) — did a great job questioning the applicants and ultimately making the tough decisions of who would receive funding.
Here was the outcome for our six applicants:
- Glenbow Elementary School: $3,000 for their ‘Stream of Dreams’ initiative
- Ranche Days Committee: $4,400 towards the cost of a mobile recycling unit for outdoor events in Cochrane (conditional on identifying one of the community groups on the committee as the primary recipient)

- Thrive on Wellness – Commuter Challenge: No funding
- Cochrane Winterfest – temporary ice surface: No funding
- Enviros Base Camp: $4,500 towards the cost of a diesel generator replacement
- Cochrane Cookhouse Community Kitchen: $3,100 towards the cost of a display freezer for food artisan market
Thanks to all who participated in the 2011 SPUR Bull Pen and those volunteers who helped make it happen.
