Earth Week 2011

Celebrate your commitment to sustainability during Earth Week 2011.  April 22 is Earth Day, but there are special events in Cochrane all week long to help you contribute to a sustainable future for our community.

Monday, April 18:

Let’s be honest.  A lot of us in Cochrane are commuters.  Register at www.carpool.ca to find a friend to commute with.  You’ll help save the planet and reduce your stress level at the same time.

Tuesday, April 19:

The Cochrane Community Gardens Society will be holding its second Community Open House on April 19 at Glenbow School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  It will be a fun and informative evening about gardening in Cochrane and about community gardening opportunities.

The evening will include guest speakers and exhibitors, question-and-answer sessions, kids’ activities and mini-workshops.   All ages are welcome, and no previous gardening experience is required.

Wednesday, April 20:

SPUR Breakfast of Champions

SPUR will be hosting the first Breakfast of Champions for the Sustainability Champions in Cochrane.  The event will include guest speakers, time for networking and a breakfast prepared with local ingredients.

SPUR will be launching the Citizens of Sustainability campaign at the Cochrane Trade Show from May 7 to 8.  Come check us out!

Renewable Energy Expedition: Antarctica 2011

The ice melt in Antarctica is the most visible sign of climate change on our planet.  Theresa Howland, a wind energy professional, received the opportunity of a lifetime to go on an expedition to Antarctica in March 2011.  She is presenting her impressions and experiences at the Nan Boothby Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on April 20.  Everyone welcome!

You can also learn more about the expedition here.

Friday, April 22:  Good Friday / Earth Day

There are many ways to take part!  You are limited only by your imagination.
